Just a short note to show our (my little family) appreciation for all your kind thoughts and comments, they have been of great help to us. We are all OK and the accident has left no physical damage to us, the creative vibe has been a bit knocked and I have found myself walking through the house feeling a little empty and without purpose and if I am honest a little nervous about going out. Today I am taking things in hand and I am off to my sewing room, I managed to sort through some books last night so all my sewing books are now in there and I take great comfort in being surrounded by books. SO I apologise for the lack of creative activities and I shall make amends today and get busy...
Any ideas on how to explain to an eight year old that every time we get in the car we are not going to be attacked...

I am not sure what you have already said to the kids, but I would just keep repeating that everyone has bad days, even them. Sometimes we are angry and have temper tantrums, but not constantly!
Keep your chin up, I'm sure your excellent mothering will get them through.x
How about a trip to a soft play place nearby to get him into the car and go somewhere really nice rather than a journey you have to make (ie school - not a favourite activity at the best of times!!)?
I'd gently remind him of all the other trips (especially those to lovely places like the beach) where you've gone before and will no doubt go again with nothing eventful happening. Also remind him that it's a big bad world out there, he can't be protected for ever and he will learn to be street wise and sometimes wary but on the whole the vast majority of people are lovely just like your household and as disturbing as it was this was a minority incident (I don't mean to belittle what happened but he needs to realise not everyone will act in that fashion and I'm sure with your loving help he will do) (((hugs)))
ps love the smiles in the mist on the windows :o)
I think when they see their mummy being confident and feeling OK when getting in the car they might follow in your footsteps!
your misty window faces are so cute!!
I've just been catching up on my blog reading and have just read what happened to you all and wanted to send you all a hug. Such a horrid thing to go through and such a horrid way for your little ones to realise that sometimes things happen that we can't control.
maybe you can read all your comments out so they can see that there are nice people too!!
thinking of you
xxx
Great smiley faces in the window, great photo. For you to get creative is the best policy and for the children, well there is already some great advice in your comments aside already. x
Lovely smiley faces! Maybe distraction techniques whilst getting in the car may help, just to take his mind off things, but not avoiding the issues of course.
Nothing more to add that has not already been said. I just wish you all the very best getting over this nasty incident. Sending you a biiiiig hug xxx
I'm so sorry to hear about what happened, there are some people out there who have completely lost the plot aren't there.
It must have been really scary moment for you and your kids. I'm not sure what you have said to them about it already, but I think the best advice is to try and be confident yourself and like someone else suggested make your next trip out short but sweet, somewhere where they would really like to go.
Jessx P.S. your smiley window picture is very cute.
I do hope you are all alright ...just to say I send lots of hugs!!!!
Take care,
Alison x
