I made this...

I picked my little one up from school yesterday and I was greeted by a very slow walking little person holding out a piece of kitchen towel, carefully walking so as not to slip or trip...'Look Mommy, I made this' So pleased with himself and so refrained as some Moms only saw the icing around their children's mouth. I asked if he wanted to eat it and he said it was not for him, 'For me' how sweet of him, well not quite...'NO Mommy this is for my brother' How adorable is that. You know I am finding this school thing so hard I miss the boys like crazy and feel incredible lonely. I felt thoroughly miserable today and just as I started to cry as I put the two little bowls in the sink from the children's breakfast, in the house that only moments before was full of laughter and high spirits...the door bell went. Three cheers for caring neighbours, my neighbour who's child started school full time last year called round, I imagine she remembers the heartbreaking feeling. To have company...bliss. Sadly my friends have once again shifted as life rolls us along in different directions. Most of my friends still have younger children and I guess I just do not fit into that group anymore, it happened last year as close friends children went of to school they no longer wanted to be around other peoples children and their lives returned to a more career orientated role. Funny how life changes...
So I thought I would have a day of sewing yesterday to get my head into a more happier place...what results...I managed to get the quilt put together...
Quilted and binded in one day. Plus I taught myself how to cut the binding with minimal use of fabric...this did take a couple of hours to work out and even then I think I got it a little wrong. The results are quite pleasing...My Autumnal Quilt.
I was rewarded by my youngest running around the house this morning with no clothes on and wrapped up in the quilt shouting 'This for me Mommy'???
I started to make a little cushion to go with it but this is as far as I got...after the endless cups of tea and coffee and non stop chatting its time to head off to collect the children...no house work done, no beds made, no shopping done...how can you sit and chat to someone and not be aware that over five hours have gone by?

So I am away to pick the kids up...Yippee...

It is so hard when life moves on. I'm dreading Kit starting school next year. It was so kind of yuor neighbour to come round.
Friendships do move on but true friends will always be around. I've found that people I never thought I'd make lasting friendships with have turned out to be the best friends of all and I know that will carry on when all our children go to school.
Keep your chin up and I'm off to look for that "winners" post right now.

ps. It's half term soon! Hurrah!
pps. You MUST go on a Featherdoen hol, you would love it!

OMG I'm sooo excited, I won "little pinkie". I'll have to hide him to stop the children fighting for him!
Thanks Suzie, I'm emailing my address right away!

Love the quilt! I have that dotty fabric in the brown colorway, too. It's lovely! And how sweet of your oldest to make a cookie for his brother!

Oh Suzie...I am sure it is an adjustment, but hopefully soon you will see it as a good thing to have some quiet time to yourself!

Hi Suzie,

That quilt is so gorgeous, I love the backing.

I can't believe how different we mothers can be ..... I love my daughters dearly but on a Wednesday (my day off) when they've gone to school I think it's GREAT! All those hours to myself! But *sigh*, it goes so quickly!

Good job we're all different, I guess :)

I found that when Ruth started school the friends I thought I had loads in common with I actually only really had small children in common with. I have found some truly fabulous friends in the school playground, and it is nice to talk about things other than children and houses. School also means that you can do things like make that beautiful quilt!
Hope you are feeling a bit better now.

Beautiful quilt Suzie. I'm afraid I'm a dreadful mother and actually enjoy my two being at school so that I can have time to myself! I love it when they get home though :o)

Oh how lovely that he wanted to make the cookie for his big brother - that really is so cute. I love the look of your autumn quilt - it's beautiful. Hope that you are feeling OK - you really do seem to be quite down about the boys being at school. Thinking of you all the time...

The quilt is more than beautiful!! Life does go on and friends come and go. The true ones remain or come back! We lost some friends when they got children and we didn’t. That’s life! I‘ve learned to cherish other things in my life, but often feel like I’m not one of ‘them’. The friends we have now are hopefully there to stay!

Really lovely quilt - I'm not surprised your little one was so keen!

I hear you with the missing the children thing - I so wanted to keep my little one at home today, she is soooo tired. Thank goodness it's half term soon.

Oh, I need to remember how it felt when my children first started school. Now I usually have at least two fifteen year old and two or three 22 year olds playing video games in my living room. Oh for a little peace and quiet sometimes!

Congrats on finishing the quilt!! It is simply beautiful!! Life is a funny thing isnt it? the way you and your friends go through different cycles. I find that most of my friends have older children and I have trouble keeping up as I always have children at home and cant just "go out" during the days. But the true freinds remain through the years and circumstances and we need to cherish them dearly! They are gold!

No housework - no beds made - how simply shocking Suzie........ aah what the hell - the housework will always wait :o) some quality time with an empathetic friend is far more important. Love the autumn quilt and obviously so did your little man

It's funny how hard it is for us to adjust to our children growing and moving on and not being there as much. That feeling when they've just started school and you're left with an empty house is horrible. Hope things get better for you. Love the quilt

I am new to blogging, but wanted to commiserate with you on your current situation. My daughters friends all start school next year and she will still have another year to wait, what agonies! I am trying to cultivate new friends for her but it is hard.
Things do settle down, hope they do for you
