Coffee and conkers...

Wow, I was over whelmed by the response over the weekend, I always think that everyone is busy doing other stuff on weekends so to log on this morning and see so many lovely comments...well I THANK YOU, you made my morning. So was it a good weekend for you? I had a lazy daisy weekend, filled with all the stuff I love...good friends, good company, crafting, playing with the children and generally lots and lots of cuddles from my kids!!! Saturday was the day for getting 'stuff' done although we managed a walk in the park and lunch out at a little country pub up in the moors. More of the Autumn cleaning and sorting got done and the boys had a bike ride...returning home with some Autumn goodness...One conker of two with your coffee? Actually this was the start of Sunday, I so adore the Sunday feeling, relaxed and laid back...I know for some it is a lonely day I know this because I have been there, but with two children who are overjoyed to not be going to school and looking forward to a day with their Mommy...well I could not be happier...So after are cuddle time in bed we remained in PJs and started the day off with a drink and a bagel..it did not take long until the youngest said: 'I want to do art'...
So not one to object and still in our PJs that's just what we did...Happy children mean happy Mommy, who takes the opportunity to do a little knitting and some hand sewing...
Embracing this whole Autumn thing we then went out for a walk and took in some of that cool fresh air you get at this time of year when the sun is shinning and the sky is milky blue. We actually had a walk around some new houses being built in the area...The children being much more interested in the trackers and diggers to be fair and who could blame them. Its funny I wondered around this amazing house, internally designed with minimalism intended, it was stunning, I loved the design and really appreciated the look, this huge conservatory... but sadly hardly any garden...no football or ball games on this estate! It really got me thinking about what matters to me, I could not imagine my hotch potch mix of plates and cups and cooking things fitting into this designer home or my kids digging for warms in the garden. No this style house was built for a sleek modern person, tidy and organised and with huge amounts of chic style, I have a friend, who I adore, who fits this description perfectly. This however is not me, once this might have upset me, we all like to think we are stylish, no I guess I have settled in to a laid back clumsy sort of way that the word chic and me are not one used together very often.
So I dreamed of living the life of a stylish trendy Mom for a while and then returned, with a bump, to my own life, after a walk through the village and meeting up with some friends for a chat and the children having a play in the stream that runs through the village, off to lunch in a little cafe just opened to restore our energy levels. Still with the outdoor theme we ventured into the garden, its that time of year to put the chairs, paddling pool and toys away for next year...My little helpers got a little side tracked with the once sand pit...
The rain had gotten in and made it more of a mucky pool...not to be put off they played happily whilst I mowed the lawn and cut back hedges and generally had a good tidy up. I little help was given to the turning of the soil..only momentarily...once the worm was found they lost interest and built a new home for their little wormy friend. Eventually the darkness overcame the garden and maybe I sat outside with a glass of wine on the garden remaining chairs whilst the kids tucked into their dinner for the last time this year...The colours in the garden and in fact all around are stunning, the dampness of this part of Britain is very much in the air and the hills and the moor land have turned from a beautiful lush green to a rather menacing grey, yes I mourn the end of the summer but the beauty that surrounds us at the moment made this a perfect weekend.

Forgive my indulgence of wittering on about my weekend...I return to crafty goodness tomorrow...

Hi - having a sneaky look in my lunch break. Oh how I miss those weekends with the children creating - I am going to have to face sorting out all the pix and creations they made that are in the loft for our downsizing move- it will be hard. I loved those cold winter weekends when the fire was on and the lego was out and the dolls and we would make thngs together - ot goes so soon - they grow up too fast - so glad to see and hear you savouring the moments. I love that Val Doonican song - The special years you are surely too young to know it but it says so much and makes me cry - I am filling up now !!

Stylish designer houses are ok until you actually want to live in them - then you realise just how soul-less they really are :o) For a relaxing lazy weekend it sounds like you got quite a lot done actually

What a beautiful post - my munchkin is still too young for these sorts of pursuits (although, he does love his crayons!). You make me look forward to the next few years!
