Dye...I love it, the thought that you have some control on the colour of your fabric is a fact I find quite exciting. Colour is something that plays a big part in my life. I remember things in colour. For some its sounds, smell or even texture, for me it is colour. From the sepia tinted photograph post cards of my grandparents time to the bright gordy colours of children's toys, colour is usually the first thing I remember when recalling a memory. So I guess its no wounder that I like colour, it touches every part of my life. I believe colour has the ability to have control over your mood and actions. Its a powerful medium for sure. Now of course black and white are colours and I am not afraid to use them. I remember quite clearly, many years ago when I was a working girl in the city, being called into see my boss, my work had slid a little and I was not bringing in the top results, the comment that stuck with me however was the fact that my boss had noticed my change in dress style, I was wearing black, I looked smart, super tailored suites, matching dress, trousers, pencil skirts all finished off with a jacket... but all black.
I went home and realised that this simple observation was about to change my life. I had always wanted the big job in the city, were my pay cheque covered easily my cost of living and living I was doing. I believed I was successful, that I could hold my head high and say... look what I did with my life. So why was I wearing black, I looked like everyone else in the city, my individuality had gone, I was no longer Suzie. I followed the crowd and I believed I was happy as surly this is what people imagine you do to be successful. Only I was not happy, in fact I was sad and despite the amount of people around me and all the nights out I had I was lonely.

Sunrise on a new month....
What can I say... I watched the sun rise, an awesome sunrise at that, on the start of a new month. I can not tell you how relieved I am that January is over. Now I know we still have a while of winter left, this is OK, this month holds the promise of a half term holiday with my children and possibly if we are really lucky... a few signs to lift my weary soul that spring is finally on its way...The weekend brought many things to the 'Suzie Sews' household... Time with friends and family, sharing all things good in life. Projects got finished...
... another winter hat
... fabric was drooled over, you know that great time whilst you are planning your next project and you try different colours together and different textures... yes lots of ideas going around my head, all with the summer season in mind, thoughts of outdoor eating and time spent on beaches and under trees... picnic rugs and place mates that hold cutlery etc... yes lots of ideas...
The next BIG knitting project was decided upon. I love the easy shape to this jacket, its meant to be knitted in the Eco wool, but as a colourful person I do not think I could do this amount of knitting in such a neural, although beautiful, colour... so I have opted for...
...GREEN!!!

You know how it goes...
You know how it goes..right? You know you are not going to be around for a couple of days then suddenly a whole week has passed you by...you've have been there...well that has been my last week...Half Term...What was planned as a quite week with a couple of trips out and a night camping turned out to be a fab holiday with the whole nine nights away from home.
I took the boys of to the East coast and we just had such a good time, I have taken so many pictures, which will have to wait for tomorrow as today is getting chores done day.
We had days on the beach, days walking through blossom filled orchards, visits to farms and the usual 'Blyton-ess' adventures that little boys who like nothing more than playing in the mud or water take you on...
But for now, until the pictures are downloaded and sorted I have had a request to show some pictures of my quilt for the Lucy Lockets Quilt swap...sadly I did not take the best of pictures more just quick snaps, but it gives you the idea...the main body of the work was made with Heather Bailey and Amy Butler Fabric...
The back was a cherished piece of retro 1970s sheeting, I am almost at the end of this and it was hard to use it in a piece as backing but it finished the quilt off with a bit of a loud statement. I hope it was not too much for my swap partner...I guess its one of those fabrics you would either love or loath...
Talking of fabric, just before I went away I was introduced to this pile of loveliness and believe me I have more. It was all a little last minute and a certain amount of not thought through buying took place...but what a lovely pile of joy, I wish I had bought a little more of some of the blues as I have ideas for a dark coloured summer quilt for picnic's in the park.
It not what you know but who you know...there I was sitting knitting with my knitting group and someone mentioned fabric, as you would guess my little ears pricked up and we got chatting about sewing...One of my knitting friends very kindly took me to a lady who was selling all this amazing fabric and such a good price I could not resit...yes I dipped into my holiday money, but I was happy to give up a few ice creams for a few extra meters of this fabric...Then I went away with a whole week to think about all the lovely stuff I could make when I returned home...on walking through the door after nine nights away...I went into my sewing room and just flicked longingly through the pile of goodness...Am I mad? Do you do this kind of thing?
So whilst I go and reacquaint myself with the washing machine and tackle all the chores, I leave you with a token picture from my holiday, at then end of the week I met up with friends from school for a camping trip and whilst I wash the clothes free of dirt and the wonderful smell of the burning wood camp fire I will think of the cosy toes, the sound of children laughing, good food cooked and eaten outdoors shared with good company with one or two glasses of wine I shall remeber the fun we all had...these are the things are memories are made off...

Mr Postman...look and see...
The Lucy Lockets Quilt Swap is now in full swing, I can picture lots of sewers patching together little bits of fabric and eagerly waiting for their Postie to drop their swapie's quilt through the door...Hurrah!!! Mine has arrived...
I was very happy to be paired up with Quilting Bebbs, I have had the pleasure in us emailing each other through our blogs, so it wass lovely to get a quilt from a Friend. Quilting Bebbs, I thank you from the heart...yes the heart and just look at all those lovely hearts...how sweet is this? it is already up in my sewing room. I just need to buy some more hooks and Quilting Bebbs thought of everything including little rings to hang it on the wall with some lovely little extra bits and bobs...buttons and nice goodies:-)
So I guess I must be falling a little behind...Oh but look, the sewing room has taken on the paraphernalia of a quilter...the ruler, rotary cutter and lots of little bits of fabric litter the floor...
Add in some colour and texture for inspiration and not to mention the beautiful sunshine shinning away...
There you have it a 'SNEAKY PEEK' at my finished quilt, I do not want to give to much away as it is a gift...
Now as if that was not enough from my dear postman who is weighed under by packages and letters walking through the village in the heat...Oh Bless...He also delivered this little package...A GIVEAWAY win...THREE CHEERS for GIVEAWAYS...This came from the lovely Sal Snippets...who you should all know by now...she has just got in a new range of fabrics and I was lucky enough to win a Fat Quarter and in true Sal Style I got a few extra bits. She is always so generous...I am not sure yet what I will make with this, its very pretty fabric with a large pattern and I am thinking it might be nice as a summer garden cushion. Thanks Sal...
SO whilst Mommy is busy sewing what are the little ones up to...Well we have new craze going on around here, remember 'Shrinky Dinks'? You used to (depending on your age) get them free in cereal boxes, you colour them in and pop them in the oven and they shrink to about a tenth of the size. As a previous paper crafter I have all the bits to make these, but we used a heat gun rather than the oven...both children love them and are able to turn out great results...with a little help from me with the keyring attachment they have produced some great little things that have been given out to friends and family...Oh and a few to decorate the light fitting in my kitchen...because you have to do that...right?
I had to show you my latest thrifted Tea set...yes another tea set in the 'Suzie Sews' household...this set has been on my mind, remember the 'Critters in Tea Cups'? well I am looking at some lovely buttermilk yarn to make up some mice to go with the these tea cups...
Talking of future projects this little pile is inspiring me, a few bits I picked up from the patchwork shop at the weekend...I am thinking yo yo buttons and small knitted flowers for hair clips...
To finish with a totally self indulgent picture of my wee ones sandy toes...Yer Its Beach weather...

Candy!!!
Have you got any candy, chocolate and other goodies left from Christmas? We are nearly through it...just this one jar and a few luxury chocolates. I love this jar, I made a few jars up for pressies this year (the idea came from the Country Living magazine). I saw a box of sweets from my childhood and thought they would make a great gift for someone I know with a sweet tooth...
The little box was £40.00 I had a closer look at the contents and worked out that there was only about £10.00 worth of sweets, so whilst the box was adorable the gift was for a man who would just not appreciate the box so this was my solution...Of course I had to check that the sweets really did taste like they did when I was a little person...
Now on to a candy of a different sort...eye candy...more to the point my WIP...I bought this fabric pre Christmas and fell in love with it, I was planning on a wall hanging...nothing fancy just pinning it around a board and hanging it up...then I was looking through my latest copy of Homespun and saw this lovely wall hanging with an embroidered centre...so I copied the bird and sat the last two nights embroidering it, picking up all the colours form the fabric, hopefully later on today I will make it into a cushion...
I have also being playing with buttons, all the lovely button wreaths over Christmas and also some super cool buttons from artsycraftybabe gave some inspiration here. So I got the glue gun out and had a little play...what a mess...I am still picking buttons up days later...anyway I made a load of pins which as usual I gave away to some friends, but I made a special one for my new coat, yes its from Boden, a beautiful green velvet coat, it can not have escaped you that green is my favourite colour, usually I struggle to buy clothes in green, at the moment it seems to be everywhere, I don't know if I am happy or not about this, as it will still be my favourite colour once the fashion designers have moved on to another shade. Anyway I am very pleased with the result and it was just so SIMPLE!!! Glue a few buttons together and glue a pin to the back of it...
Here is the funky scarf for my youngest. Last Christmas I made one for my older child, a blue one with a boat design, it was a fun and easy project to do over the busyness of the holiday period, not much thought needed and very portable. Once the desired length was achieved I lined it with some fleece for softness and warmth, as soon as I sew together all the pieces of the sweater to match it, it will be a cool set for my little chap...
Yes once I sew up the sweater, all the pieces are knitted I just need to sit down and sew them together...actually I have a couple of knits at this stage, I am always so eager to get on to the next project...as you can see from my current knitting basket which sits next to my chair so I can curl up in the evenings in front of the fire and click away.
I have recently started a HUGE project for me, a swing coat...now this will be an ongoing project, I imagine until this time next year, I know I will not have the commitment to stay faithful to it...Oh look...its green!!!So here are the new additions to my fabric stash, mostly bought in the sales, first from my favourite ebay shop...Sal has some really super stuff that you often struggle to get in the UK and she is so so generous, I have always had one or two extra fat quarters in my order and on this order I got some little Christmas blocks for the children and some great little patchwork squares that I am itching to put together. Thanks Sal. You can link to her shop through her blog...
I also made two trips to a patchwork shop sale, I was buying some fabric for my current quilt, but also to stock up my stash for the year...so yes I did go a little mad...
and there's more...
Of course storage is always a problem so I purchased another rack for my new goodies...
With that lot, I am moving happily into the New year with lots of projects in my head and some already in progress...So much so, I shall away and get an hour in the sewing room before the school run...

Topping up the Stash!!!
Over the weekend, I eventually made to it to a mill ( I have wanted to go here for almost four years)that stocks all sorts of fabric and crafty goodies. My guest was just fab, he took my oldest off for some milk and cookies and told me to take all the time I liked...How could I resist, all that lovely fabric, a lot I had not seen before. So I thought , well I just have to make the most of this as it is such a luxury to shop without the children, my youngest was having a nap. Obviously I was aware not to push the kind act and made my mind up to only look in the fabric area...
In honour of the Month of Moo, I bought this cute fabric, this was so expensive I only bought a small amount. I love the matching fat quarter, much more reasonable in price. I plan to use this on the goodie bags for my sons birthday party...more to be revealed later in the week.
This is not my cup of tea at all. It was in the bargain bucket (no surprise there) but I plan to make some pencil wraps for the boys birthdays so this will be just great...
Mmmm...another one for the boys...
This one is JUST for Mommy. I so fell in love with this I wanted to buy all of it, I restrained and bought enough of the background fabric for a top I want to make for myself. The others are a fat quarter pack just because I loved them so much.
Later that day whilst talking to my son, he told me that the best part of the day was sitting talking to our guest when he was treated to his snack. I thought that this was the sweetest thing. All the gifts we give and provide but at the end of the day the best gift we can give our children is our time.
